Oh man, those things really suck.
In the south, you can get Carmex, it comes in a little white jar with a yellow lid. That helps somewhat. I also found that alternating alcohol with vitamin e helps somewhat. Get the capsules of vitamin e, they are usually a gel inside of a soft shell. Pierce the shell with a sterile needle and squeeze out the vitamin e, it’s usually like a thick liquid and apply it to the cold sore. Prior to that, dab the cold sore with some rubbing alcohol using a cotton ball.
Apply Carmex as SOON as you suspect you may have a fever blister coming on. Sometimes you can avoid them that way.

Eliminate Fever Blisters Or Cold Sores Without Medicine
Aug 19th
A fever blister or cold sore is a fluid-filled, painful blister.
The infection from the virus erupts as small painful blisters on the usually on the outside of your lips, or the mouth area.
Fever Blisters can form on other parts of your body such as on your fingers. This is quite uncommon, but it does happen. At one time, my mother-in-law had one on her ear.
Oral herpes, or Herpes Simplex virus, is very common. More than 60% of Americans have had a fever blister or cold sore at one time or another, according to the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, and 25% reoccur. Canker sores or “mouth ulcers” are also a form of the virus.
The herpes virus can be spread to anyone by direct contact. A person is most contagious when the blister first appears and when the scab forms at the end. So, be sure to always wash your hands.
There are several causes that seem to bring on a fever blister/cold sore. Exposure to the sun, especially for several hours, always triggered a fever blister for me growing up.
I learned, the hard way, to always wear sunscreen on my lips while out in the sun for long periods of time.
Also stress, an illness such as a cold, certain types of diet, a fever or during a woman’s menstruation can cause an outbreak.
A fever blister starts out as a tender, tingling or burning sensation on your lip, or other area affected. (On my finger I could see tiny blistery circles under the skin that were very tender) Within a day or two a small blister will develop that grows larger, as did with my finger, and sometimes spreads. The puffy fluid-filled blister will be tender, very sore and embarrassing, too.
Let’s look at some Home Remedies that you can use to get rid of those awful fever blisters:
When you first feel the tenderness, a tingle or twinge on your lip hold a piece of ice, wrapped in a cloth, on the spot for as long as you can stand it. Repeat process several times a day. The ice will deaden the oncoming blister, which will prevent it from blistering up. It must be applied when tenderness is first noticed or it won’t help.
If a blister does appear break off a leaf from an Aloe Vera plant and rub the liquid gel to the blister. It smells nasty, but works wonders! Apply the Aloe Vera several times a day especially at night before bed. Your fever blister will dry up and go away within a few days. Make sure you keep a plant around the house. It’s easy to grow and works great for many problems.
Tea tree oil can be applied to the blister which should help it go away within a few days.
I can’t say enough about using Aloe Vera because for me, it is the BEST treatment. It works for me every time, even on those ugly blisters that appeared on my fingers. Hopefully it will work for you, too.
Hang in there, I know your fever blister(s) hurt, but they will go away and remember; they are contagious!

Cold Sores And Fever Blisters – Are You Dangerously Contagious?
Aug 18th
Cold Sores and Fever Blisters have been a blight on the human face for over 2000 years. They have been, and still are, a worldwide epidemic. Historically, the ancient Romans were cursed with them too. In fact, they had such an outbreak of cold sores and fever blisters going on in Rome, the emperor banished kissing in public ceremonies. Today, it is estimated that nine out of every ten men, women and children over seven are infected with the virus that causes these unsightly blisters.
By the time you finish reading this short article, you will know the what, why and how of cold sores and fever blisters. You will learn the one thing you must avoid to prevent permanent damage to yourself or someone else when treating a cold sore. Finally, you will discover how to heal them and prevent future outbreaks.
Some folks call them cold sores. Others refer to them as fever blisters. Truth is, they are two different names for the same exact thing. They both are an oral herpes outbreak. Cold sores and fever blisters most commonly occur during or after physical stress such as colds (cold sore) and flu (fever blister). And that is how they got their names. Cold sores are the most common term used for these blisters.
The root cause of these hideous and painful blisters is the herpes simplex virus, type 1 or type 2. We all have various viruses in our bodies at any given time. Most, like cold and flu viruses, eventually disappear. This is not true with the herpes virus. This virus will likely stay with you your entire life. Fortunately, the fever blisters and cold sores oral herpes virus is normally latent. Nearly a third of all those infected will never get an outbreak. They will never even know they carry the herpes virus. The other two-thirds of us will get one or more fever blisters per year.
Cold sores and fever blisters are dangerously contagious.
During an outbreak, you can easily spread the virus to someone else. You can easily spread cold sores to other areas of your body, such as your eyes. Fever blisters on the cornea can cause permanent damage or blindness. Avoid the itching temptation to touch the sore with your bare fingers. Constantly clean with alcohol on cotton balls or swabs. Coat them with a virus killing oil such as garlic or oregano oil. Don’t be kissing anyone, anywhere.
How frequent and severe your cold sores depend greatly on your physical condition. It depends on the strength of your immune system. There are several easy ways others have used to quickly heal and prevent cold sores and fever blisters.
Lysine is a popular natural remedy for the herpes virus. It works quite well at a dosage of 1000 to 3000 mg. per day during the event. Those who get frequent blisters often do well taking a daily maintenance dosage of 500 mg. If you can get by without the maintenance dosage you might be better off. Studies have shown that the body may develop a tolerance to lysine.
Every person who is prone to cold sores and fever blisters should be taking a good quality multi-vitamin. This is critical today for a high level of health. It helps to reduce the effects of stress and give you a stronger immunity. And by good quality I do not mean the drug store one or two-per-day junk vitamin pills. They do not contain enough nutrients for your body to notice. And, they often do not dissolve during digestion. I have personally seen them in bedpans. You could still read the brand name on them.
Quite honestly, you will get more nutrition from two ounces of broccoli. Go to a vitamin store or check on-line. Expect dosages of six capsules or three large tablets per day. Better yet, dosage packets are becoming real popular today. That is what I am currently using.
Should the oral herpes virus break through the immune sentries, and you start to feel a burning or itching sensation on your lip or nose, get some ice or something cold on it immediately. This will often send the virus back into hibernation. Herpes simplex virus does not like cold. Acting quickly with the ice is an easy and proven way many cold sore victims use to prevent cold sores and fever blisters.

Cold Sore Treatments From the Internet- Can You Trust These Home Remedies for Herpes Fever Blisters
Aug 16th
The internet has many sites that list cold sore treatments home remedies. Can this information be trusted? After all, we’ve read that wikipedia is a site where users add their own information and that many universities are having trouble with the veracity of it’s content.
When you look at a discussion forum or a message board on health problems such as cold sore blisters try to see if the recommendation has received any feedback- positive or negative. This can help you get a little bit of perspective on the usefulness of a natural remedy for herpes that someone is suggesting.
Keep in mind that people are self-diagnosing and they may not even have had a cold sore but it could be a canker sore or a pimple on their lip. In any case, here are a few recommendations I’ve found on the net so let’s review them:
1) Put nail polish on the cold sore. I’m not too sure if I like this idea. Nail polish is used for chiggers by some people. We are talking about a sensitive area, the lip. You also eat and lick your lips so need to be aware of what chemicals will be on your lips. I don’t think this is a great idea.
2) Avoid peanuts . Yes, for me the argine in peanut butter can cause an eruption and there are many studies that say that an imbalance of amino acids can cause cold sore outbreaks. Try to avoid argine rich foods such as peanuts and chocolate.
3) Put tabasco sauce on the lip. Hmm, I don’t recommend this. I never tried it but don’t think burning the cold sore is a way to help it heal.
4) Eat yogurt and take acidopholous tablets. Yes, this sounds good and this builds the immune system and gives you good bacteria.
5) Use toothpaste on the lip cold sore and also apply listerine. In my research someone wrote they react negatively to sodium laurel sulfate which is in toothpaste so I am not sure this will be an effective treatment or if it can cause a reaction. In terms of using listerine, it depends on how your skin reacts to alcohol. Some of the listerines can be very strong. This needs more research.
6) Apply drying formulas from acne medications. No, an acne pimple is not the same as a cold sore which is a virus. If you dry your lips out the scab can open very easily as it tries to heal.
Try to study and evaluate each proposed suggestion and be sure you find others who have positive responses before trying an internet cold sore solution.

Cold Sore Blisters and Herpes Rash Due to Herpes Simplex Virus
Aug 13th
Having cold sore blisters on your lip is a difficult problem, both socially and and physically. It is hard to eat as your sore can open and bleed . Even smiling can be rough due to fact that the sore can crack and delay the healing process. Socially, people want to hide out during a cold sore and this is not possible due to obligations of work, school and family life.
On top of this, some people will get a rash on their body called erythema multiforme minor which is generaly caused by the hsv virus . Ninetly percent of people with erythema multiforme minor have it caused by hsv 1 virus. The rash can be itchy and it may also recur. Fortunately , it doesn’t leave scars. Building your immune system up will help with preventing future recurrences of both cold sores and the herpes rash.
Because the virus is always with you once you get it, be careful to not share cups, toothbrushes or kiss others, especially during the flare ups when the virus is most contagious. Also don’t touch your sore and put in contact lenses afterwards without washing your hands thoroughly or using a santizing gel. There is a form of herpes called occular herpes which can spread to the eye and be dangerous.
Taking lysine , avoiding sunlight on your lip (unless you use spf) and improving the immune system is important. You can shorten the life of cold sores with antivirals that are natural as well as prescription antiviral medications. Be sure to take supplements if you feel you are getting a cold or are exposed to one as many people get a cold sore blister outbreak right when they get sick. Stress is a big factor too so pace yourself before taking tests or giving a presentation so you don’t get into feelings of panic as you approach the deadline. Fortunately, there are natural remedies for cold sores that will shorten their life and prevent further recurrences.
Cold Sore Treatment – Fever Blisters Help

A cold sore or fever blister is painful and can occur on the lip, genital area or other places on the skin and the mucous membranes. They start often with a tingle feeling and then grow into a sore which may itch. Keep in mind that this can be contagious during an outbreak so use caution around others. Many people are upset by catching a cold sore from a romantic encounter as it is something that is now in your system for life.
Please note that a cold sore symptom or fever blister outbreak is not the same as an aphthous ulcers or canker sores. These are similar in appearance but appear inside the mouth they are not caused by HSV. People on chemotherapy treatments may get canker sores in the mouth but these are not cold sores.
Lysine and zinc supplements are mentioned by some for helping the immune system against cold sores. For myself, I find if I eat peanut butter I may get a cold sore outburst on my lip, but if I take lysine at same time I won’t. The amino acid ratio is very important in our systems. Some people find that argine will upset their system and cause an outbreak and this is in a high ratio in some body building formulas and supplements. If you take this to bulk up and tend towards cold sores, a lysine supplement can be helpful.
Sometimes before you get a cold you can get a cold sore because your body is not working optimally and you may not be sleeping enough. Be sure as well to always use sunblock on your lip when you are outdoors as I know I can get a fever blister on my lip if it is not protected due to UV lighting.
The application of ice as well as tea bags are two home remedies for cold sores that are advised to help to minimize the pain and inflammation. Tannic acid (in tea) has anti-viral properties and ice is always good to reduce inflammation. Neither of these are a cure but still can be an aid.
Most outbreaks of cold herpes sores are preceded by a sensation of burning, itching or tingling in the area prior to the blistering becoming visible. At times the cold sore will be dry and it forms a crust at the end stage. You are still contagious at this point however. Do not think that you can’t pass the virus on just because it is no longer red or bleeding.
Traditional natural remedies that purport to ease the pain and length include acidopholous, grapefruit seed extract, aloe juice and b-12 supplements. Though some people say vaseline will stop the cracking, I found this spread my cold sore to create a second one next to it so I cannot recommend the vaseline.
They haven’t found a cure for fever blisters and cold sores yet but you can find comfort in knowing that with a good system of prevention as well as measures you take with the initial tingle the length, severity and frequency can be greatly minimized and you don’t have to live in a crisis mode with this.

Home Remedy for Cold Sore Treatment – How to Stop Lip Fever Blisters
Jul 25th
When you hear the phrase home remedy for cold sore it can bring up questions about the validity of those kitchen recipes and if they are valid. Looking on the internet can reveal a variety of suggestions which may be overwhelming. More importantly, the lip is a fragile area and if you have a fever blister or herpes sore there, you don’t want to aggravate it or create additional problems or infections.
First of all , look at your diet to see if you are eating a lot of foods high in argine (an amino acid). Foods such as peanuts, peanut butter, protein powder or certain grains can put your system vulnerable to cold sores. Taking a lysine supplement and minimizing these foods high in argine is helpful. Argine is in a lot of body building products. Lysine supplements are in the health food store and the body doesn’t produce lysine.
I’ve read that some people recommend vaseline, but my own experience is that when I was camping once I used it and the cold sore on my lip then became three cold sores! Although vaseline softens the skin, for me it spread the virus. When you read a recommendation on the internet, be sure to see if there are more testimonials for that approach to try to validate it. Remember that sometimes people also try to sell products and prey on people on forums to sell their wares.
Remedies that people seem to agree upon are applying ice, applying a tea bag (due to the tannic acid), increasing b-complex vitamin, taking lysine regularly and sage tea. Also getting enough sleep and improving your immune system is helpful because we are susceptible to viruses when it is weak. In fact, the term cold sore is used since people get it before a cold at times when their immune system is low and they are run down.
