Question by wantacerveza: Is there any fast cure for a cold sore?
Does anyone know of any fast remedies for a cold sore? I just noticed one on my bottom lip. I usually feel it coming on the night before but this one seems to have just sprung up during the day. Any fast cures? They usually last me about 2 weeks and I can’t wait that long.

Go to GNC and buy L-Lysine. Take 1000 mg (1gm) 3 times the first day, than 1 a day for a few days. It helps them go away. The theory is that the Lysine molecule has a greater affinity for the cell than the virus that causes the cold sore, thus healing them quicker. I do this all the time, when I feel them coming on, and they go in a few days. Good Luck!!

Some people have great success with L-Lysine. I however found for me it only makes it worse. Cold sores are a virus lying dormant in your body until your immune system weakens then it flares up, usually after a cold thus it’s name. I find for myself the best bet is to take lots of vit c and garlic along with any other immune boosting formula as soon as I begin to feel worn down and hope it works. After mine flare up nothing seems to shorten the life of it. I apply a nice cream like Burt’s Bees royal jelly eye cream to help with possible scarring.

Ooooooh!
I’m so excited to share! I’ve been waiting for someone to ask!
I got three cold cores last week on wednesday. Yea, THREE.
In desperation I looked online. Now these are going to sound crazy and extreme…but…trust me.
1. Ice. If it hasn’t formed all the way yet, slap an ice cube on there. NOW. haha.
2. Lysine. Pick it up at Wal-mart. It’s a natural vitamin. Take a few a day, and one a day for the rest of your life. People swear that after they starting taking it, they never had a cold sore again.
3. When/if that bubble starts forming…time to dry it out. Some people recommend popping the bubble with a sterilized needle before starting this…but I didn’t. Up to you.
Do this RIGHT before you go to bed!!
Step one: Ice it for 10-15 minutes. When you definetly can’t feel it anymore, get some Non-acetone nail polish remover (i know, i know, just do it.) and some cotton balls. Now cover the sore with the remover; be careful not to get it on your skin for too long. It’ll burn. You’ll be like, “Oh, wow, that hurts alot more than I thought it would.” but the results are amazing. This is for drying the blister.
Step two: Ice it again for the same amount of time. Get some hydrogen peroxide and do the same thing you just did with the nail polish remover. Repeat that about 2-3 times. It won’t hurt half as bad. This is for cleaning the blister, killing the virus, and drying it too.
Step three: Wait for the hydrogen peroxide to dry completely. Now, you don’t have to do this step, but it helped with mine. Get a fresh clove of garlic and cut it into…oh, a few pieces. Take the part where the juice is fresh from cutting and rub it on the sore. It will burn a little, not bad though. This is for drying, but also healing the sore.
If you do this soon enough, your sore should barely show up.
If not, don’t freak, just do what I said and it’ll be gone in no time. Trust me! Oh man, I had three huge ones. They were the worst I’ve ever had. I did this and right now they are little scabs that should be gone by friday.
Good luck!!! If you have any questions, email me at moonsun5001@yahoo.com
EDIT: Don’t keep it moist, by the way. You will feed the virus producing the sore and make it grow 10x worse. Oh and if you don’t believe me about the solutions, you can google them. There are tons of websites with those same suggestions.
