Cold Sore Treatments From the Internet- Can You Trust These Home Remedies for Herpes Fever Blisters
Aug 16th
The internet has many sites that list cold sore treatments home remedies. Can this information be trusted? After all, we’ve read that wikipedia is a site where users add their own information and that many universities are having trouble with the veracity of it’s content.
When you look at a discussion forum or a message board on health problems such as cold sore blisters try to see if the recommendation has received any feedback- positive or negative. This can help you get a little bit of perspective on the usefulness of a natural remedy for herpes that someone is suggesting.
Keep in mind that people are self-diagnosing and they may not even have had a cold sore but it could be a canker sore or a pimple on their lip. In any case, here are a few recommendations I’ve found on the net so let’s review them:
1) Put nail polish on the cold sore. I’m not too sure if I like this idea. Nail polish is used for chiggers by some people. We are talking about a sensitive area, the lip. You also eat and lick your lips so need to be aware of what chemicals will be on your lips. I don’t think this is a great idea.
2) Avoid peanuts . Yes, for me the argine in peanut butter can cause an eruption and there are many studies that say that an imbalance of amino acids can cause cold sore outbreaks. Try to avoid argine rich foods such as peanuts and chocolate.
3) Put tabasco sauce on the lip. Hmm, I don’t recommend this. I never tried it but don’t think burning the cold sore is a way to help it heal.
4) Eat yogurt and take acidopholous tablets. Yes, this sounds good and this builds the immune system and gives you good bacteria.
5) Use toothpaste on the lip cold sore and also apply listerine. In my research someone wrote they react negatively to sodium laurel sulfate which is in toothpaste so I am not sure this will be an effective treatment or if it can cause a reaction. In terms of using listerine, it depends on how your skin reacts to alcohol. Some of the listerines can be very strong. This needs more research.
6) Apply drying formulas from acne medications. No, an acne pimple is not the same as a cold sore which is a virus. If you dry your lips out the scab can open very easily as it tries to heal.
Try to study and evaluate each proposed suggestion and be sure you find others who have positive responses before trying an internet cold sore solution.

Cold Sore Blisters and Herpes Rash Due to Herpes Simplex Virus
Aug 13th
Having cold sore blisters on your lip is a difficult problem, both socially and and physically. It is hard to eat as your sore can open and bleed . Even smiling can be rough due to fact that the sore can crack and delay the healing process. Socially, people want to hide out during a cold sore and this is not possible due to obligations of work, school and family life.
On top of this, some people will get a rash on their body called erythema multiforme minor which is generaly caused by the hsv virus . Ninetly percent of people with erythema multiforme minor have it caused by hsv 1 virus. The rash can be itchy and it may also recur. Fortunately , it doesn’t leave scars. Building your immune system up will help with preventing future recurrences of both cold sores and the herpes rash.
Because the virus is always with you once you get it, be careful to not share cups, toothbrushes or kiss others, especially during the flare ups when the virus is most contagious. Also don’t touch your sore and put in contact lenses afterwards without washing your hands thoroughly or using a santizing gel. There is a form of herpes called occular herpes which can spread to the eye and be dangerous.
Taking lysine , avoiding sunlight on your lip (unless you use spf) and improving the immune system is important. You can shorten the life of cold sores with antivirals that are natural as well as prescription antiviral medications. Be sure to take supplements if you feel you are getting a cold or are exposed to one as many people get a cold sore blister outbreak right when they get sick. Stress is a big factor too so pace yourself before taking tests or giving a presentation so you don’t get into feelings of panic as you approach the deadline. Fortunately, there are natural remedies for cold sores that will shorten their life and prevent further recurrences.

Many of them are good for comfort but fall far short when it comes to preventing or getting rid of your cold sores fast.
Don’t get me wrong. Cold sores are quite a pain and a cold sore treatment that gives comfort is very important. But the quicker you can get rid of it the sooner you get back your life.

Don’t spend another dime on miracle cures before you give these remedies for cold sores a try. They work for others and they will work for you.
TEA TREE OIL
Tea tree oil is an oil from the bark of the Australian Tea Tree. This oil was a very important antiseptic and wound dressing during World War II. It tastes and smells much like turpentine, but tea tree oil is a powerful anti-virus, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal remedy.
There are currently some studies in progress regarding tea tree oil and cold sores. You don’t need the studies. All you need to know is that people have been successfully using it for cold sores for over 100 years.
Tea tree oil is not for internal use. As a topical treatment it soaks into the wound, chases away the herpes virus, sanitizes the entire cold sore area and greatly speeds healing.
During the scab stage, tea tree oil will keep the scab soft and pliable. This prevents painful cracking and the need for re-healing. Look for this essential oil in the vitamin section of bigger department stores.
Tea tree oil is inexpensive and will come in handy time and time again for a multitude of uses. A little goes a long way.
CALCIUM
Calcium is a key player in cold sore healing and prevention. Calcium is the main mineral that keeps the body alkaline. Your body is healthiest when it is slightly alkaline. The cold sore virus hates an alkaline environment.
It is almost a sure bet that if you have a cold sore, or get them frequently, your body has turned slightly acid due to stress or illness. Sufficient calcium intake every day can help prevent these cold sores by helping to reduce the acidity of your body.
Most good multi-vitamins should contain a daily dose of 1000 milligrams of calcium. If yours does not, you may need to get an additional calcium supplement.
If you are under a lot of stress, or get a lot of cold sores, a daily dosage of 2000 milligrams would be in order. With supplements, calcium is poorly absorbed. Search for a high-absorption formula.
The best form of calcium is from real food. Canned salmon (with bones in) is an excellent food source for calcium. Asparagus, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are also excellent sources of body-ready calcium.
Usually a combination of food calcium and supplement calcium is the right choice of remedies for cold sores.
HERBAL TEA
Tea – in the form of tea bags – is one of the more powerful remedies for cold sores. Most of those who use this remedy use black tea. A growing number of folks, however, are discovering herbal tea to be even better.
You can experiment with different herbs, but it seems the most success has been with mint tea. There are many blends that contain mint. As long as the tea contains mint, you will do fine.
Make as strong a batch of this tea as you can take. Sipping on it is quite refreshing and will help attack the cold sore virus internally.
The best results come from applying the hot, wet tea bag to the cold sore area. The phyto-nutrients from the tea will stop the progression of the virus and heal the cold sore quickly.
These are just three of several great remedies for cold sores that have been well proven over time. Give them a try the next time you get a cold sore.
The more cold sore treatment options you have, the more you can combine them and fine-tune them for your personal needs. Keep searching and discover the best remedies for cold sores for a lifetime of cold sore freedom.

How to Get Rid of Cold Sores and Oral Herpes
Jun 13th
How to get rid of cold sores, fever blisters and oral herpes quickly and safely is very good to know if you suffer from these uncomfortable and unsightly lesions.
There are a lot of wild claims going around. Many offer to show you how to get rid of cold sores using their costly methods or products. Although you will have varying degrees of success, quite often you are disappointed. Very few live up to their claims.
If you truly want to learn how to get rid of cold sores, first understand what causes the oral herpes outbreaks that we call a cold sore or fever blister.
Type 1 or type 2 herpes simplex virus creates all cold sore, fever blister or oral herpes sores. Nearly 90% of the world population carries the virus since it is so contagious.
And once you catch it, you will carry it for life. The herpes virus is a master at hiding. Even you immune defense system cannot find it when it is dormant.
In the case of facial sores, the virus is hiding latent in the root cells of your facial nerves. When it senses that your immune guards are weak or distracted, it rushes to the surface with hopes of creating more of its own kind.
The herpes virus is unable to reproduce on its own, but must force your surface nerve cells to become virus factories to create its offspring. Once the cell has created all the virus possible, it is destroyed to release the new virus.
It is this destruction of millions of adjacent cells that creates the open, weeping wound.
If you want know how to get rid of cold sores as quickly as your body will allow, then here are the three basic steps you must use, even if you are using other cold sore remedies.
1. EARLIEST COLD SORE FOREWARNING.
If you have much experience with cold sore outbreaks, you will possibly have noticed an itching, tingling, burning or dryness in the spot where you normally get the sore.
You are actually feeling the virus moving up the nerve and entering the cells at the surface. If you act fast, you can get rid of cold sores (or at least slow them down) during this period.
There are a variety of cold sore remedies that work well for this. The most convenient, no matter where you are, is ice. It really discourages the virus. Sometimes it just gives up on the idea and moves back into hibernation.
The neat thing about this – if you are able to get rid of cold sores at this early stage, you can avoid the painful and lengthy healing process.
2. CONSTANT STERILIZATION OF THE COLD SORE AREA.
How to get rid of cold sores? Take a hint from your body. As soon as the cold sore opens up, your body creates a thick fluid that weeps constantly from the wound. This is your body attempting to wash away the virus particles.
You can speed this process along very easily.
Soak a cotton ball or tissue in rubbing alcohol, wine or peroxide. Use this to wipe the sore as much as possible. Then toss away. The more you do this, the quicker your body can get the healing underway.
And this will reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus to another spot on you – or to another person.
3. REPAIRING THE COLD SORE DAMAGED CELLS.
When the cold sore was forming, ice was an excellent cold sore treatment. Now it is not.
Do not use ice after the sore breaks open as it will greatly slow down healing by driving blood away. Now you should be applying heat to bring healing blood to help repair the sore.
You can do this by using a hot, wet paper towel – then throw away. Or you can do what many have found very successful – using hot tea bags.
Not only are they cheap and easily available, but every time you use them, you are also bathing the wound with the healing tea fluid. This is an excellent way to get rid of cold sores quickly and permanently.
Learning how to get rid of cold sores is not too difficult. You should know that the methods outlined above are excellent and used successfully by millions.
Just use caution when someone tries to sell you some magic cold sore treatment salve or lotion. You will most often be disappointed.
Perhaps a little more research and you will know as much about how to get rid of cold sores as anyone.

Cold Sores – Recommended First Aid For Oral Herpes Cold Sores
May 31st
Cold sore first aid for easy healing, and preventing future cold sores is now possible. Get your life back! The following are medically sound first aid ideas you will want to try.
1. COLD SORE FIRST AID FOR DISCOMFORT
Ice is one of the most universal cold sore remedies for stopping the pain and swelling. If used early and often, it can stop any cold sore dead in its tracks. If you use wet, frozen tea bags, you will accomplish the same thing but will also benefit from the special antiseptic properties of the tea plant.
You may not be able to use ice when driving or at work. In that case, check out some drug store cold sore remedies that have pain deadening ingredients – such as benzocaine or lidocaine. Ice works better, but these will give some relief when you cannot use ice.
For the headaches, fever and swollen lymph glands, use your favorite aspirin-type product. This will give some relief and help you to function better in your daily activities.
2. COLD SORE FIRST AID FOR KEEPING THE SORE STERILE
Cold sore first aid requires keeping the wound clean and sterile. The best way to do this is with alcohol or peroxide – applied with throwaway tissue or cotton balls. Clean the cold sore as frequently as possible. Sanitize your hands afterward with hand sanitizing gel.
Some folks claim great success using wine or brandy in place of alcohol for the cleaning process. Makes sense since these products also contain nutrients known to be helpful to the healing process.
3. COLD SORE FIRST AID FOR FAST AND EFFECTIVE HEALING
Cold sores are caused by massive cell destruction. The body must take some time in repairing the damage and replacing the skin cells. Here are a couple of proven first aid tactics you can use for this.
Apply fresh Aloe Vera gel – from the leaf of a live plant. (Bottled gel has been killed by the bottling process and does not work.) You will be astounded how quickly Aloe Vera speeds skin growth. It is like skin fertilizer.
If you do not have access to a live Aloe Vera plant, here is first aid you can use that works with or without Aloe Vera.
Warm up any tea bag in water, not microwave. Apply this warm bag to the wound for about 15 minutes at a time. After you are done, apply a zinc based salve or gel. You probably can find a zinc containing salve among the cold sore remedies at the store. Some folks just rub a wet zinc lozenge on the sore (the kind you suck on for head colds).
4. BONUS COLD SORE FIRST AID TIPS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Ice is probably one of the best cold sore remedies – if used early. Once the sore opens up, however, ice can slow down healing dramatically. Cold drives away healing blood from the area.
Once your cold sore breaks open, it begins the healing mode. To relieve pain at this point, use the numbing remedies mentioned above. These will not give as much comfort as ice, but will not slow down healing either.
Now is the time to start applying heat as often as possible.
Start using a daily multiple vitamin program. A good vitamin will consist of a daily dose of four to six large tablets or capsules. Anything less and you might as well save your money. Many folks report reducing and preventing cold sores by as much as 50% using this therapy.
When your sore has a scab, it will painfully crack when you smile or move your mouth. This really slows down healing because the scab is constantly trying to repair itself too.
Your best bet is to keep the scab well saturated with oil – such as olive oil or vitamin E oil. This will keep it soft and flexible for less cracking.
The best cold sore first aid is stopping cold sores before they occur. This used to be quite difficult, but now more and more people are finding their personal cure for cold sores.
Cold sores affect each one of us differently, because each of us is unique. You will have to try different cold sore prevention methods – and perhaps combining them. Eventually you will discover, as millions of others have, the secret to personally preventing cold sores.
Imagine how wonderful life can be when you no longer have to cope with cold sores.
