Question by Emily: what is the best over the counter non drowsy remedy for cold/sore throat symptoms?
My finace is not currently on any meds except he was prescribed vicodian 500 mg generic for pain concerning a real bad break in his arm last summer. His script says he can take 1-2 every six hours but he only uses it occasionally like one pill at bedtime not even everyday. He did take one last night at 10pm. He is having cold type symptoms, stuffy nose, sore throat. Is there any over the counter type remedies he can take? He works full time and cannot afford a sick day. He is not running a fever or anything just started feeling sick last night. And he is not really even coughing. I am just not too sure what to tell him to take. We have dayquil at home but he has not taken it yet.I was wondering if something like ricola drops for sore throat would help or halls? Does it help to start taking vitiam c? or a multi-vitamin? Does anyone know if that airbourne works? Please advise….

Get yourself a glass
and cover the inside bottom with salt
Pour into the glass about one finger of apple cider vinegar
Turn on the hot tap water…
allow it to run, until it is as hot as it can get…
Fill the glass about 1/3 full of hot tap water
Gargle this mixture 3X
Don’t worry if you swallow a little of the mixture,
it’s not going to hurt you.
The taste of the mixture reminds me of

In addition to the gargle mixture…
You need to get some Viatmin C
and some Garlic Capsules
In the morning, mid day and at bedtime take 1000 mg of Vitamin C
In the morning, mid day and at bedtime take 4 capsules of Garlic
Gargle the mixture in the morning and at bedtime

Do You Suffer These Cold Sore Symptoms?
Aug 5th
Cold sore symptoms are not exactly the same for every individual, but there is a common thread of symptoms among all of us.
Being able to effectively cope with your cold sores depends greatly on your awareness of your cold sore symptoms. This knowledge is critical if you want to reduce the severity, or completely eliminate, cold sores in your life.
After reading this article, you will have the facts you need to identify your cold sore symptoms and choose an appropriate treatment. Often, with proper and timely action, you can be outbreak free for life.
Quite likely you know by now that cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, either type 1 or type 2. As long as the virus remains dormant, you will not experience any symptoms.
But if the virus becomes active, you will begin to encounter an avalanche of cold sore symptoms at the target area.
The first symptom that you will notice is often called the itching stage. At this stage your body is sensing the virus moving from cell to cell of that nerve, toward the surface. Although itching is quite common, you may also experience dryness, tingling, or burning sensation.
Fact: When you start feeling these first symptoms, a cold sore is very close, perhaps only hours. If you act quickly, you can stop it and send the virus back into hibernation. Now is the time to apply a good cold sore treatment or ice to the target area. You may, as some folks have, start taking lysine capsules.
If you do not have a cold sore treatment with you, hold ice or a cold drink to the area. The cold will discourage, or at least delay, the virus from trying to replicate. Even if you do not stop it dead, the continuing symptoms could be a lot less severe.
The next symptom to expect is the inflammation stage.
The cold sore symptoms here include little red bumps, often mistaken for pimples. These painful. Swelling begins, along with enlargement of the lymph glands under the jaw.
Additional symptoms include headaches, malaise, and a slight fever.
Fever reducers and pain relievers are often used during this time. Some remedies at your local store may contain numbing agents. They help for comfort but do little to prevent or shorten the outbreak. Ice is excellent to reduce this symptom.
The next symptom of a cold sore is the open sore. The red bumps burst and merge, usually into one or two large open sores. This is a painful and very unsightly period. The sore is weeping a fluid that is teaming with newly created virus. Headaches, fever and painful lymph glands are common here.
Fact: Although cold sores are contagious from start to finish, the open sore and scab stages are dangerously contagious. Alcohol kills viruses and will keep the wound clean. Use extreme caution not to spread it, especially to your eyes. Eye damage can result.
This open sore now leads into the crust stage which delivers more uncomfortable cold sore symptoms. It is still very painful to the touch. The yellowish crust often cracks when you eat or smile, creating additional pain. You still may be bothered with headaches and fever. Your enlarged lymph glands will begin going back toward normal now. There will continue to be itching and much discomfort as the wound heals under the scab.
Your scab may last up to a week or so. Even though new skin covers the area, you will notice a reddish look and still some discomfort. The sore is still healing below the new skin. It is a deep wound so this may take another week or more. Fever and headaches should now be gone and your lymph gland should be greatly reduced.
Sorry, but you are still contagious until the redness is completely gone. Also, be warned that during this final cold sore symptom, the sore can come right back at you.
Keep treating it with ice or the cold sore treatment of your choice. Ice provides welcome relief during any stage or symptom, although it may slow healing at this point by driving blood away from the area.
Reducing or eliminating cold sores in your life depends on early detection and active treatment of your cold sore symptoms.

How to Get Rid of Cold Sores, Cold Sores Symptoms
Jul 23rd
Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is believed to lie dormant in certain nerve cells of the body until it is activated by stress, anxiety, a cold, or excessive exposure to the sun. The sores last anywhere from 7 to 14 days. Although some use the terms “cold sore” and “canker sore” interchangeably, they are different.
The herpes simplex virus infects around 90 percent of the US population and although many people never experience cold sore outbreaks, it can make life unbearable for the many people who do whenever they suffer an attack. However, by taking a few simple precautions you may be able to prevent cold sores from occurring so regularly and when they do there severity is often reduced and one of these habits is simply to change your eating habits.
The first cold sore symptoms noticed by many sufferers is a tingling sensation, which then blisters. The blister is filled with a colorless liquid and usually bursts after a few days, weeping the liquid and leaving an open sore that is both unpleasant to see and painful. However, the sore crusts over after a few days, and when the scab finally disappears the new skin underneath is scar free.
Cold sores are best treated as early as possible. Believe it or not, there is a lot of talk about gelatin free yoghurt being one of the best home remedies. Many people also advice to use Vaseline to cut down on the cracking and the painful dryness that comes along with having a cold sore. Lemon balm is also very efficient as it can dramatically speed up the healing time.
The other method for tackling cold sores when they appear is through natural remedies, some of which date back to Roman times. One popular treatment is to take L-Lysine supplements which can act to reduce the severity of attacks and the application of ice to the infected area when the tingling sensation appears is also popular.
One popular home remedy that is available in just about every home is the application of ice to the affected area. As soon as the tingling sensation is felt, an icepack should be applied for up to thirty minutes. It is probable that the cooling action of the ice prevents the virus from replicating, minimizing the effects of the outbreak, and some people claim it prevents the blister from appearing at all.
Apply acyclovir (take for instance over-the-counter Zovirax cold sore cream) on the cold sore immediately upon discovery of the symptoms. Do this for 5 times daily over the next 5 days. It would help to reduce the duration of the outbreak.

Cold Sore – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
Jun 14th
Cold sores are small, painful, fluid-filled blisters that usually occur on the lips, gums, or roof of the mouth. They’re caused by the herpes simplex virus and are contagious. There may be pain or tingling one to two days before the cold sores appear.
What Causes Cold Sores?
Cold sores are caused by a virus called herpes (say: hur-peez). Herpes is one of the most common viral infections in the world. The medical name for the specific virus that causes cold sores is herpes simplex
It is important to be aware of what causes cold sores to recur to be able to control their outbreak. What causes cold sores’ recurrence is the presence of the virus in the nerves of an individual. Cold sores actually clear up in an average of two weeks all by themselves without any use of medication. Some dermatologists may prescribe medicines such as skin creams and ointments to help with the healing and to ease the pain and discomfort.
Common Signs and Symptoms:
Fever, muscle soreness, tiredness, or swollen lymph nodes.
Grouped blisters on a red base, usually located on lips or facial area.
Cold sores appear when HSV-1 is reactivated later in life. They may occur after a period of illness or stress, poor nutrition or sunlight exposure, or for no known reason. Dental procedures that stretch the lip may occasionally trigger the virus.
Making the Diagnosis
Cold sores have clear and obvious symptoms, so there’s no need for a battery of tests. In any case, they’re rarely a matter for the doctor. However, you should see a doctor about any redness and pain in the eye, any fever over 100°F (38°C), or if there is thick yellow-white fluid coming from the blisters. This may be a sign of bacteria in the wound. Your doctor can check the fluid from the blisters for the presence of bacteria.
Treatment and Prevention Cold Sores
There is no known cure for cold sores. Most people don’t need treatment, since they go away on their own, but some medications may be helpful. There are several cold sore remedies that are available without a prescription. These products are usually liquids, ointments, gels, or balms. They can contain lip moisturizers and protectants or anesthetics that help to reduce the pain of cold sores and prevent cracking and excessive drying of the lips.
Your diet plays such a big role in your health, not just for cold sore prevention, but in every area of your health. Take care of your body by eating a good diet and taking a daily multi vitamin. Look for vitamins that have Lysine in them as this has been shown to help with cold sore symptoms. Try to keep the fast food to a minimum.
With an antiviral cream, apply it as soon as you feel a cold sore coming on since the sooner you start treatment the more likely you are to prevent the cold sore developing further. Rub the antiviral cream onto the cold sore as often as instructed by the directions. Some anti-virals need to be applied 5 times a day and some as often as every one to two hours.

COLD SORES, common name for Herpes labialis (also known as “Orolabial herpes”) is an infection of the lip by herpes simplex virus. In many cases, it causes small blisters or sores on or around the mouth that are commonly known as cold sores or fever blisters. When the viral infection affects both face and mouth, the broader term “orofacial herpes” is used to describe the condition, whereas the term “herpetic stomatitis” is used to specifically describe infection of the mouth. Sores associated with herpes labialis typically heal within 2-3 weeks, & there are several cold sore remedies which can be tried at home but the virus that causes them is not removed from the body. The herpes virus infects and becomes dormant in the facial nerves, following orofacial infection, periodically reactivating (in symptomatic people) to create sores in the same area of the mouth or face that the original infection occurred.
To know the (http://www.worldwidehealth.com)cold sore treatment you have to first understand its cause. There are one-time symptoms you get when you are initially infected with the herpes simplex virus. They are sore throat, fever, headaches and overall flu-like feeling. These symptoms only last about two or three days.
Here is a brief roundup of the main cold sore symptoms.
1. INITIAL WARNING OF IMPENDING COLD SORES
Your first indication of a possible sore is quite mild and often ignored. This first symptom will be noticeable in the area where you get cold sores. These include a slight tingling and itching sensation.
Your target area may feel dry. If you have lip balm, you will desire to use it.
You are aware that something is afoot beneath the skin. You are right. The herpes simplex virus is at the surface and infecting many cells for the purpose of replication.
Applying ice, or anything cold, at this time will provide comfort. Also, it could discourage the herpes simplex virus – or stop it completely. But if not then you need cold sore treatment.
2. BUMPS AND SWELLING
Some painful, tiny, red bumps will form. Sometimes they are mistaken for acne pimples. Then the affected cells will become swollen with the new virus particles.
Some fever and headaches are common at this point. There are lymph glands under the jaw on each side. Usually the gland nearest the sore will inflame and enlarge as it fights the virus.
3. OPEN WOUND APPEARS
Once the cells are full, they are destroyed, leaving a gaping wound. Now your sore will weep a clear liquid because your body tries frantically to wash the virus away.
This can be quite a painful period. Cold sores, oral herpes and fever blisters are created on the end of the nerves. When the sore bursts open, the nerve endings are exposed.
You are very contagious for the entire duration of cold sores, but this is the worst time. The fluid weeping from the sore is absolutely swarming with fresh virus looking for a new home.
4. COLD SORE TREATMENT
Once the sore breaks open, it begins the healing period. You should notice improvement every day now.
Your body will scab-over the wound, and starts to replace the damaged cells underneath. If the scab becomes dry, it will crack when you smile or chew. This hurts a lot, and can slow down the healing process.
To help keep the scab soft and pliable, apply virgin olive oil.
The crust will last approximately a week, depending on your healing speed. When it finally disappears, there will be fresh new skin underneath.
You will notice a redness to the area. This means it is still healing below the skin. There is still herpes simplex virus lurking around – making you contagious until the redness disappears.
Your previously swollen lymph glands should be back to normal now.
The final healing period seems to drag on forever. You are feeling much better and looking OK but are still infectious.
And, if you are not cautious and take suitable cold sore remedies, cold sores can reoccur quickly during this final healing process.
Another cold sore treatment involves the use of lemon balm tea.
These tea bags can be found for cheap anywhere you find specialty teas. If the lemon balm is not “stand alone” but in a blend with other herbs, that will usually be just fine too – as long as lemon balm is the primary.
Doctors explained that the ydiscovered lemon balm herb has anti-viral properties and is a natural cold sore treatment. They took a 16 – 20 ounce container of bottled water, then brewed a strong batch of lemon balm tea using one tea bag per 4 ounces – then froze the tea bags – using these in place of the plain ice cold sore treatment.
There are many other reported highly effective cold sore remedies that you can try. These include tea tree oil, dmso, olive leaf oil, lysine, zinc, yogurt, aloe vera and more. Lysine and zinc do not work well applied directly because the size of their molecules are too large for effective absorption. Lysine and zinc are better used as internal support supplements.
Another great virus killer for surface use is alcohol. It can sting, if you have not numbed it with ice first, but it is the gold standard for keeping a wound clean and reducing infections.
Use a cotton ball or tissue to apply it. You do not want to contaminate your fingers and spread it to someone else or to another location on yourself.
To speed healing even faster, try using some fresh sap from the Aloe Vera plant leaf. Just break off an inch or so of a leaf and apply the sap to the wound. Be sure to use the alcohol, or some other germ killer first. Aloe can heal right over an infection.
Yes – it is quite simple but it is a well proven and powerful cold sore treatment.
